As I have been driving quite a lot these last 2 days I decided to relax and go hiking a few kilometers to enjoy the nature around here. In the morning I did the 'Robberg'. Robberg is a peninsula a few kilometers from Plettenberg Bay and is a marine reserve. There is a well known scenic hike (9.2km) that do the tour of the peninsula.
It is a spectacular scenery and you can spot a colony of seals and even watch whales and dolphins from there. The brochure and guide books say that it is a matter of 4 hours but it seems rather pessimistic as it took me around 2 hours 30 minutes stopping along the way to take pictures and enjoy the view. As I had enough time I decided to go to hike around Storm's River Mouth in the Tsitsikamma National Park (55km from Plett) as well. On the way I took the R102 to do a detour through the Nature's valley.
When I arrived at the Tsitsikamma entrance gate, I had the somewhat following talk with the ranger after he asked me if I wanted to get inside the park (well, obviously I did not want to go outside and was not looking for an airport...):
- Are you from South Africa ?
- No
- OK, then it is 80 rand.
- What ? 80 ? height-zero ???
- Yes
- How come ? why is it so expensive ?
- It's like that.... but okay make it 20 rand.
On the other hand I just noticed I did about 3200km since June 15 and there is obviouslly about 1000 more to come.
