Giant Buddha

The Giant Buddha is located at Lantau Island, next to the Po Lin monastery. It is the world's largest seated, outdoor, bronze Buddha. I took first a ferry from Kowloon to Hong Kong (HK$2.2) then another one to Lantau island (HK$16. , then the bus to the monastery (HK$16 one way) and went back using the fast ferry (HK$21).

To climb the stairs all the way to the top of the buddha, it 'seems' you have to buy a full price ticket that includes a meal (either $HK50 or $HK88 for 'deluxe' meal). I say 'seems' because it is not quite clear to me and the astounding chinese ability to not understand english when they don't want to cumulated with an expertise in rip-off business (africans are amateur in this sport IMHO) makes the doubt rise in me - why the heck would you want to pay for a meal in the middle of the afternoon for example ?

Anyway, I did not have breakfast it was mid-day and I took the challenge of a deluxe meal. The restaurant is a vegetarian one so I had my ratio of vegetables for the week. The food was good but nothing astounding, it certainly is quite pricey but hey, this is Hong Kong and a tourist attraction so...

I left Lantau around 2PM and know I find myself in Hong Kong central, more exactly in a Pacific Coffee Company shop. Like Starbuck, they serve an absolutely disgusting american-like waterish coffee but I'm taking advantage of the free internet computers inside, so all is good . For the record, the cheapest I have found in the Chungking Mansions was HK$35 / hour, free drink included. There is one computer inside the Central Post Office as well.

I will go later to the peak in Hong Kong central to take pictures at sunset and night of the whole area. I will go there using the Tram Peak (HK$30 return), it's very impressive as the slope reach 27 degrees in some parts !
