Charter Diving Experience

I have been diving Koh Tao this morning. I went to SouthWest Pinnacle and guess what ? There were 57 people on the boat ! FIFTY-SEVEN divers ! When we arrived on the site there were about 6-7 boats as well. There were probably 200 divers diving the same site. I have never seen so many people underwater, this was just like Bangkok traffic at its peak. Simply unbelievable !

We were diving in small groups of about 4 (luckily !). My guide was a Divemaster trainee that logged less than 80 dives. I could see she was a bit lacking of confidence as the briefing was typically a 'school' one but hey this is understandable. For leading the dive she got stuck during all dive looking at her compass to do a well established pattern, following the map of the site on her slate. So obviouslly it was difficult for her to follow her compass and look at the marine life around at the same time. Needless to say this was not a picture dive as we were swimming swimming swimming and swimming.

That's really too bad as the site is simply awesome and visibility was excellent.

I told her to slow down for the 2nd dive so this got a little bit better but the site was mostly about nudibranchs (especially as visibility was a low 5m). I managed to miss nearly all my pictures. Photography is really tough. If there is something disturbing you and you cannot focus 100% on the pictures and the marine life, the result is disastrous.

I'm finally getting your journal again - hooray. I always look forward to hearing what your latest adventure is. I cannot believe there were 200 people diving all in one place. That's incredible. Talk about a traffic jam.

actually I think I was wrong with the figure..I would definitely say over 300. I have pictures of all this mess.

Sounds like the marine life was the 300 people.
