Cervantes

I finally took a car at AVIS, a compact Hyundai Getz which is a joy to drive and I have been driving 250km north of Perth to spend the night at a place called Cervantes. Cervantes as you all know, is famous for its pinnacles and ...stromatolites at Lake Thetis. Before you hit Google to figure out what is a stromatolite, it is simply the oldest known fossils and is formed by photosynthesizing microbial communities such as cyanobacterias. This is damn exciting. I know .

After this incredible moment of my life (hem) and coming tyre to head with a bobtail skink (more later, don't hit Google) I went to take a pictures of the pinnacles during sunset.

Okay another discovery and a cousin from the dinosaur, a bobtail skink is only a big funky lizard with a short tail as will be seen in the pictures (later).

I went back to Cervantes to spend the night at the local backpacker which is probably one of the best as far as features are concerned. It's super clean and everything is well organized and furnished. That said Cervantes is really a small town (they specialize in Crayfishing around here) and this is not the place where you would want to stay 2 weeks unless you absolutely need to write a book

Now I would like to say my experience driving in Perth and around after a day is simply hem, strange. Obviously either the guys in charge of the road signs did their training in South Africa or vice-versa.

The signing is insane. As again you find some road signs for exit at the very last moment, that is right AFTER the exit ! Some road signs are extremely useless for tourists and you are miserable without a map (with one as well). Driving in Perth was an insane experience as well and this was a good warmup. Either if you are on the left or right lane and looking for your way you will be blocked at one stage...when once the car in front of you disappear.. you notice that there is a (conveniently) road sign indicating 'left lane must turn left' and 'right lane must turn right'. Yay, so you turn, thinking I will do a u-turn somewhere or turn left or turn right or whatever, but of course all you find is 'no u-turn' , 'no right turn', or 'no left turn' ! Basically I did maybe 10km more than necessary ! when I told that to my canadian roomate he told me that was also his experience so at least, this is not a standalone vision of my sick brain. When there is smoke, there is fire

Good point however, the red lights are also opposite the roads and the street signs are clearly visible from the car when you drive.
