Brisbane

I jumped on the Tilt train in Bundaberg at 5:30AM to go to Brisbane. I woke up at 4AM in case the weather would not have been very cooperative as I had to walk until the train station. We have been having heavy rain during the night so I was just wondering what would be my dressing status after carrying 45kg of gear in such showers. Fortunately the sky was clear and I made it to the station fully dry.

I arrived at Brisbane at 9:30AM and I'm now staying at Aussie Way Hostel (A$22). Linen obviouslly had more than 2879 sessions in a washing machine but appart from that it looks good. I don't care much anyway as I'm leaving tomorrow to Christchurch (New Zealand). I expected to spend at least one more day in Brisbane to look around but unfortunately all trains were surprisingly full.

I don't know what's wrong with people in Brisbane but they seem to speak unbelievebly fast and I can hardly understand some of them. Before leaving Bundaberg I was talking to someone from Brisbane (he wanted to learn spanish, so he did not find anything better than to start a dive instructor course so that he could work in Dominican Republic to learn spanish...).

Anyway, fact is I could not understand some of his sentences and he had to say it at least twice. Now I'm just coming from a hairdresser in Brisbane and I could hardly understand the woman...all things being equal she did not understand me as well. A complete dialogue de sourds [dialogue of the deaf].

I have to say though that it was not at such a level as Darren (UK) during the Manado liveaboard where I could not understand a single word when he was talking normally (read: transforming a 10-word sentence in 2 audible syllabs. Example: could you pass me the butter please ? in 'ass 'ter 'iz ?). What was relieving is that Todd as an english native speaker (canadian) could not understand him either. We had some fun, though

Try to talk with aborigens or all guys in the bush, it's funny, they use expression uncommun!

Could you post a picture of what the hairdresser did to you? I would just like to see the result of a "dialogue de sourds"...

I managed to make it look like a rather normal hair cut (I'm surprised myself) , but what is sure is that they have a very different style to cut hair in Australia and South Africa than in France.

In San Diego, hairdressers don't even wash your hair before performing their haircut. I was quite surprised the first time... Isn't it interesting to discuss about hair? )

This is called 'hair splitting'
They do the same in Oz, they just humidify it. In this one I was asked if I washed my hair less than 24h ago and the shampoo A$5 extra. A$19 for haircut which is apparently ultra cheap (I payed A$10 in Perth)
